Strandja: It’s back

Публикувано от jd на Jul 12, 2007 в Bulgaria |

I just opened the usual news websites to scan the evening news and surprise, surprise! The MPs at the Parliament obviously have finally woken up from their midsummer sleep and introduced an amendment to the Bill of Protected Natural Areas. The amendment says that all acts and bills, which declare territories for protected areas cannot be appealed in front of the Court. This, ladies and gentlemen, means that in plain words all the fuss about the Strandja National Park are for nothing. It has been, IS (!!!) and will be a protected area for good. And no investors, local politicians or any other individuals may revoke this!

It seems that all the protests and the public attention actions (please note that I intentionally don’t call the PR actions) have done their job. Also, it look like there is some kind of civil society in Bulgaria. And it also seems to be working. I hope that for that same civil society this is just the beginning; the beginning of making this country a normal one!

There is hope!
